Federal Property Management Regulations prescribe procedures for disposing ofserviceable government equipment and furniture that is no longer needed. The procedures are intended to protect the government's interests in assets having remaining useful service life and inherent residual value. However, in protecting its interests, disposal process cycle times are often increased. Asset productivity can be degraded and holding costs can be unnecessarily increased.
