摘要

Recent theory and experiments studying the interaction of short intense opticalpulse with atoms are reviewed. It is shown that the conventional energy eigenstate expansions of atomics physics are not an efficient way to describe the response of atoms to these field pulses. Instead a description in terms of ensembles of classical paths of the electrons is proposed and illustrated with examples from the area of Rydberg electron wave packets. jg.
