UV reflection spectroscopy can be utilized as a characterization tool formonitoring reactions in certain polymers, which lack high quantum yield and thus, the application of fluorescence technique is impractical. This paper describes our recent development of bifurcation, fiberoptic probe for UV reflection spectroscopy, which can be applied to in-situ cure monitoring of polymers, such as epoxies and polyimides. UV reflection spectra obtained with the bifurcated fiber probe were compared to those from the standard reflectance accessory, and cure monitoring data are presented for both DGEBA/DDS epoxy and 6FDA/PDA polyimide. Various aspects on instrumentation, fiber configuration, and surface roughness effect on the quality of spectra are also presented. (MM).
