Analysis of the 1991 Collections from the Larson Site (39WW2), Walworth County,South Dakota

The 1991 archaeological data recovery program conducted by the Corps of Engineersresulted in the collections of 20 cartons of artifacts. The University of South Dakota Archeology Laboratory (ARCHLAB) analyzed the collections including ceramics (16,952 items), litchics (3,654), bone and shell (13,464), several samples of carbon and organic material (29), and a small amount of metal and other historic material (104). Human remains were discovered in the faunal collection. It was determined that the cultural material is consistent with an Arikara site of the Post-Contact Coalescent Variant (c. 1750-1780).
