Exploitation of Botulinum Neurotoxins for Research and Clinical Purposes

This multi-disciplinary program yielded the new information essential forproducing novel materials applicable in the effective treatment of botulism, based on targeting and delivering neutralising agents inside paralyzed cholinergic nerve endings via an innocuous, engineered form of botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) type A. Proof of principle for this innovative strategy was obtained by showing that the transporter produced displays all the desired characteristics.
