Model tests of the navigation pass spillway proposed for the Montgomery PointLock and Dam project were conducted with various anticipated pool and tailwater elevations and spillway gate positions to determine the hydraulic forces acting on the spillway gate, hydraulic characteristics of the spillway, stilling basin energy dissipation, and stability of riprap in the approach and exit channels from the spillway. Data were collected with a data acquisition system capable of collecting data for prescribed lengths of time and sampling at desired rates. Tests conducted to determine the vibration characteristics of the instrumented model spillway gate and bearings supporting the gate indicated that their natural frequencies were too high to influence the magnitude of the measured hydraulic dynamic forces. Test results are presented in pressure contour plots, time-history plots, tables, and graphs. The test results provided information for design guidance to ensure the integrity of the spillway, spillway gates, stilling basin, and riprap. (MM).
