Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) sensors offer all-weather and stand-off rangecapabilities when employed against target acquisition tasks. SAR may be used by attack, surveillance, and/or reconnaissance platforms to detect, locate, track, and identify mobile targets such as theater ballistic missile launch vehicles. Operator performance with SAR varies as a function of sensor resolution, sensor employment geometry (grazing angle), and overall scene clutter. This study manipulated these variables through the generation of controlled simulated SAR imagery.
