The effect of glass transition temperature on the thermal decrosslinking of Diels-Alder crosslinked poly(n-alkylmethacrylate) networks was studied. A series of networks possessing a range of glass transition temperatures wasprepared by copolymerizing two n-alkyl methacrylic monomers at various feed ratios, and the influence of theDiels-Alder crosslinker was evaluated by comparison against triethylene glycol dimethacrylate-crosslinkedthermosets and uncrosslinked thermoplastics using dynamic mechanical analysis. Preliminary examination ofother DMA signals such as loss modulus and particularly tan delta suggests some degree of retro Diels-Alderreaction is occurring, and current efforts to correlate the aforementioned mechanical property data withcalorimetric data are underway.
