In the light of the political, financial, theoretical, and methodological importance of the real convergence in the European Union, the analysis is aimed at testing the agricultural convergence process across the Italian provinces from 1995-2006 and the role of cohesion and structural funds. The empirical study compares the traditional OLS estimates and those referred to the geographic weighted regression techniques assessing their information and theoretical improvements. The results achieved underline a significant spatial heterogeneity of the local coefficients of agricultural convergence that affects strongly the average annual change in sector's productivity and emphasises the operational of a "centre-periphery" model of growth. In this context, the European Regional Policy has not resulted significant in affecting agricultural convergence process while the sector's structural funds seem to be negatively correlated and characterised by a global coefficient.
