New plant to improve biofuels

Sydney Unversity has a new pilotplant for research on biofuels. Opened last Septem- ber, the Hydrothermal Biofuels Research Pilotplant will give researchers an opportu- nity to improve biofuel production taking it a step closer to becoming a commercially viable, sustainable energy source. The plant is being operated jointly by the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering and the School of Chemistry. Its construction was funded through the federal government's National Collabora-tive Research Infrastructure Strategy, with additional support from the NSW Science Leveraging Fund and the university. The researchers will collaborate with biofuels producer Ignite Energy and others active in this field.
