Sweden picks site for waste repository

Nuclear power-plant operators in Sweden have selected a site wherethey can permanently store the country's spent nuclear fuel. The repository would be located 500 m below ground at Forsmark, roughly 200 km north of Stockholm, which is already home to a nuclear power plant. The decision was taken after two decades of study by the Swedish Nuclear Fuel and Waste Management Company (SKB), which is owned by the country's nuclear firms.
