IN VITRO STUDIES ON MARCHANTIA PALEACEA BERTOL.

摘要

Plants of Marchantia paleacea have been raised and multiplied using gemmae as explants. Single gemma cultured on half strength Knop's macronutrients and Nitsch's trace elements along with 10 ppm ferric citrate supplemented with 1% sucrose as carbon source, produced two or more thalli with eight weeks of culture. Multiplication of thalli readily achieved upon transfer of the apical portion of thallus or innovations or gemmae produced on gemma cups of cultured plants, on same fresh basal medium. An enhanced growth has been observed in continuous illumination of 4000-5500 lux at a temperature of 21 ± 2°C. The variation in germination of gemmae and their further growth pattern was also observed in the plants of two different localities viz., Mussoorie(western Himalaya) and Pachmarhi (central India). Cultured thalli were acclimatized and transferred to soil.
