String theorist Michael Green will bethe next Lucasian Professor of Ma-thematics at Cambridge University.Green, 63, will succeed Stephen Haw-king, who held the chair from 1980before retiring last month at the ageof 67 and taking up a distinguishedresearch chair at the Perimeter In-stitute for Theoretical Physics in Can-ada (see above).
