The tension adjustment of the S2 conveyor at the sinter plant at Corus Redcar was proving increasingly difficult for the maintenance engineers due to harsh environmental conditions and challenging maintenance schedules. The problem was addressed during a planned plant shutdown but the team encountered considerable problems releasing tension on the tail end in order to replace the conveyor belt. Not only did the remedial work take excessive time, but the poor condition of the adjusters meant that insufficient tension could be applied to the new belt.
