Scientists from the UK are waging war on hospital 'superbugs' with a highly effective antimicrobial organo-silver coating. Silver compounds have recently proved effective as antimicrobial coatings of medical implements, such as catheters and dressings. But usually these coatings mustbe put into a polymer matrix which makes them expensive for routine use. They can also have adverse effects on cell growth, which can slow down recovery from wounds such as burns.
