The president of the IChemE, Dr Ramesh Mashelkar, has challenged the profes- sion to develop applications of chemical engineering to improve the lot of many people in the world who survive on less than $2 a day. The challenge was a key aspect of his address at the IChemE's National Dinner held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on 15 April. The address was given in the context of the IChemE's "Roadmap for 21st Century Chemical Engineering" initiative.
