WyomingView: promoting remote sensing research and applications with no-cost satellite data.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) initiated the AmericaView programme with a primary goal of promoting the use of remotely-sensed data through outreach, data archiving and distribution, training and applied research activities. The result of this effort, a non-profit organization called AmericaView Inc., collaborates with the USGS to fulfill these goals at the national and state levels. One of its consortia, the Wyoming View (WyView), is presented in this paper. The costs, data archive, user profile and landsat data distribution of WyView are described. WyView data were requested for a wide range of applications including land cover mapping, energy recovery activities and impacts, wildlife habitat assessment, wildfire mapping, rangeland vegetation mapping, mapping invasive species, reservoir water level monitoring and land cover change assessment..
