Shell Eastern Includes Butadiene In Plans for Singapore Project

Singapore-Shell Eastern Petroleum will build a 175,000-t/y butadiene unit at Pulau Ular,Singapore,as part of its recently announced plans for Singapore(PCN,11 Sept 06,p 4).Shell has awarded ABB Lummus Global a contract for the license and basic engineering of the butadiene unit,which will be based on proprietary technology from ABB and BASF using n-methylpyrrolidone as a solvent.The process results in a high purity butadiene product and low operating costs,ABB explained.
