Rhodia Polyamide Declares Force Majeure On HMDA and Downstream Production

Paris- Rhodia said its Rhodia Polyamide Materials has declared force majeure on hexamethylene diamine (HMDA) and downstream products. The company cited "a severe disruption of raw materials procurement due to navigation limitations further to the accident involving a river barge on the Rhine," which occurred on 13 Jan. 2011. "This, combined with a supply shortage following an equipment breakdown in the adiponitrile production facility in Chalampe, France," lead to the company's decision.
