BCPL's Assam Project Progress Updated; Financial Closure Expected Next Month

New Delhi- Brahmaputra Cracker and Polymer Ltd. (BCPL) has received the final basic design and engineering packages for all units comprising its Assam petrochemical complex in Lepetkata, India (PCN, 1 June 09, p 3). B. C. Tripathi, chairman of BCPL, and chairman and managing director of GAIL (India) Ltd., which holds a 70% interest in BCPL, noted that financial closure for the Rs 5,460.61 crore project will be achieved by October 2009. GAIL will make an equity contribution of Rs 188 crore, Tripathi explained. This, combined with the capital subsidy of about Rs 316 crore, an OIDB loan of Rs 267 crore and a current balance of approximately Rs 124 crore will be sufficient for the project's requirements.
