Ineos Completes $l-Billion Purchase Of Norsk Hydro's Polymers Assets

Brussels-Ineos on 1 Feb. completed the acquisition of Kerling ASA, Norsk Hydro's polymers business in Norway, Sweden and the UK, for Si-billion (PCN, 4 Feb 08, p 4). The sale, which includes a 50% interest in the 557,000-t/y Noretyl ethylene cracker at Rafnes, Norway, "enhances our operational efficiencies and over time will substantially improve our position across the chlor-vinyls and compounds businesses," noted Jim Ratcliffe, chairman of Ineos. Ineos last September acquired Borealis' 50% interest in the Noretyl cracker (PCN, 10 Sept 07, p 1).
