Eastman, SK Plan JV to Produce Cellulose Acetate Tow in Korea

Seoul-Eastman Chemical and SK Chemicals have signed an agreement to form a joint venture company to build a cellulose acetate tow facility in Korea, for an undisclosed amount. The new company, Eastman Fibers Korea Ltd., will have 27,000 t/y of cellulose acetate tow capacity to be built near an existing SK Chemicals manufacturing site in Ulsan. Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2009 and is due to be completed in the second quarter of 2010.
