Sinopec confirmed the start of construction on the 1-million-t/y ethylene cracker of its Tianjin Petrochemical subsidiary, as well as the associated 350,000-t/y phenol and acetone facility at Tianjin (PCN, 4 Feb 08, p 1). Braskem is expanding the capacity of its Alagoas, Brazil, polyvinyl chloride plant to 420,000 t/y from 220,000 t/y. The expansion is scheduled for completion in 2010.
