DuPont and BP Biofuels Partnership Targets Multiple Butanol Molecules

Hamburg-DuPont and BP last week announced that their partnership to develop and commercialize biobutanol is targeting advanced metabolic pathways for 1-butanol as well as other higher octane biobutanol isomers. The two companies recently disclosed plans for a biobutanol demonstration plant to be built as a 50-50 joint venture at BP's Saltend site in the UK (PCN, 2 July 07, p 3). DuPont said the plant, "the first of its kind in the world," would produce about 20,000 liters/yr from various feedstocks.
