Toray Touts Laboratory-Scale Success In Production of Biobased PET Fiber

Tokyo-Toray Industries said it has succeeded in producing laboratory-scale samples of "the world's first fully renewable biobased polyethylene terephthalate (PET) fiber" using fully renewable biobased PET derived from biobased paraxylene sourced from Gevo Inc.Gevo and Toray, which in 2010 signed a non-binding letter of interest for the future supply of renewable paraxylene from Gevo's isobutanol, earlier this year announced the successful production of fully renewable and recyclable PET (PCN, 4 July 2011, p 3).
