Tokyo-Asahi Kasei and Mitsubishi Chemical have announced the signing of a joint venture memorandum of understanding for the unification of their Mizushima, Japan, naphtha crackers (PCN, 8 June 09, p 2). The 50-50 joint venture includes the integration and unification of both parties' basic petrochemicals operations, which have a combined ethylene capacity of 1-million t/y. The parties will also make every effort to further strengthen the Mizushima industrial zone including through alliances with oil companies, Mitsubishi said.
