Kureha Building Specialty PGA Unit At DuPont's Belle. W. Va., Complex

Belle-Kureha Corp. has started construction at DuPont's Belle, W. Va., site on a plant to produce polyglycolic acid (PGA) using glycolic acid feedstock produced by DuPont at Belle. "PGA offers a gas barrier that is 100 times higher than that of polyethylene terephthalate (PET)," said Kureha. "The use of PGA in soft drinks and beer containers can reduce the amount of PET in those containers by 20%, while maintaining the equivalent barrier against carbon dioxide loss."
