Sasol Decides to Retain, Restructure Its Olefins & Surfactants Business

Johannesburg-Sasol on Friday announced its intention to retain its olefins and surfactants (O&S) business and said it has identified restructuring and other opportunities to improve the performance of the O&S operations (PCN, 18-25 Dec 06, p 4).Following consultation with shareholders, Sasol plans to implement the changes over the next three to five years, after which the options for the O&S business will be reconsidered.The company in 2005 decided to divest the business because it "did not adequately provide the integration benefits which Sasol required." At the end of 2006, the company said discussions were "fairly well advanced with parties seeking to purchase" the business.
