Shchekinoazot Completes Russia's 1st Modern Methanol Plant in 27 Years

Moscow—Russian firm OAO Shchekinoazot has commissioned "the first modern methanol plant constructed in Russia since 1984," according to Haldor Topsoe, technology supplier for the project (PCN, 9 July 07, p 1). The 1,350-t/d methanol plant, built at the company's existing site in Shchekino, Tula, is the first step in cooperation between Shchekinoazot and Topsoe to modernize ex- isting facilities at the site with the aim of creating a state-of-the-art highly integrated petrochemical and fertilizer complex. The next step is construction of a hydrogen plant in 2012.
