Rio de Janeiro-Mitsui & Co. last week confirmed that it plans to invest in a bio-ethanol project with Petrobras and Itaruma Participacoes SA in Ita-ruma City, Goias, Brazil (PCN, 24 Mar 08, p 4). The partners will establish a joint venture owned 60% by Itaruma and 20% each by Mitsui and Petrobras to develop the project, which will produce 200,000 t/y of ethanol from sugarcane. Production is expected to start at the end of 2009.
