Lanxess Delaying Some Investments, Including Singapore Rubber Project

Leverkusen-Lanxess Chairman Axel C. Heitmann said the company has decided to delay some investment projects "given the decline in demand for chemical products we are seeing throughout the world," including a butyl rubber project planned for Singapore (PCN, 30 June 08, p 3). Construction on the 100,000-t/y butyl rubber plant had been scheduled to start in January 2009 and completed in 2010. As a result of the decision, groundbreaking is now expected to take place in the fall of 2009 and operations are scheduled to start in 2012.
