The influence of hibernation on Dendrolimus pini haemocytes

This paper analyses changes in the haemocyte numbers and morphology in the diapausing caterpillars of Dendrolimus pini. Five types of haemocytes were distinguished: prohaemocytes, plasmatocytes, granulocytes, oenocytes and spherulocytes. We found thatthere is a decrease in the number of plasmatocytes and increase in spherulocytes number in hibernating larvae. Dark granules were observed within some haemocytes of hibernating larvae.
