Constraints in adoption of biocontrol agents and biopesticides in agriculture

The State Department of Agriculture and Tamil Nadu Agricultural University have started a number of biocontrol and biopesticides producing centres. The study was conducted with the aim of identifying the constraints in adoption of biocontrol agents and biopesticides. It covered 40 cotton growers in Attur block of Salem district, 40 sugarcane growers in Mohanoor block of Namakkal district and 40 coconut growers in Thondamuthur block of Coimbatore district. Open ended questions were used to identify the constraints. The study revealed that supply of inadequate quantity, supply of hatched egg cards, delayed supply of biocontrol agents and biopesticides and long distance to production centre are the problems faced by farmers in the adoption of biocontrol agents and biopesticides.
