A Mississippi state judge Sept.22 declared a mistrial in the punitive damage phase of a trial over DuPont's alleged responsibility in causing a Delisle,Miss,man to develop multiple myeloma,an incurable blood cancer.Glen Strong sued DuPont in Dec.2002 in the Second Judicial District Court in Jones County,Miss.,alleging that toxic chemical emissions from a titanium dioxide-producing plant in Delisle,Miss,gave him cancer.A jury agreed,and on Aug.25 awarded him and his wife US15.5 million in compensatory damages (see Pesticide & Toxic Chemical News,Sept.5,2005,Page 4).
