EPA IG urges better state, EPA cooperation on Superfund cleanups

A new report by EPA's Office of Inspector General blames state and federal environmental officials for delayed remediation efforts at seven New Jersey Superfund sites that were first targeted for cleanup two decades ago. Neither the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) nor EPA Region 2 officials "took actions needed to ensure progress" at the sites in question, according to the June 2 report.
