CPSC seeks comment on testing product components for phthalates

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued a statement of policy regarding the testing of component parts for phthalates. CPSC issued the statement pursuant to the Consumer Product Safety and Improvement Act, which prohibits the sale of toys and childcare articles that contain more than 0.1 % of any of six specific phthalates.The statement has been available on CPSC's Web site since Aug. 7. CPSC announced its availability in the Aug. 17 Federal Register and is seeking comments on it by Sept. 16.
