Field Efficacy of Newer Insecticides against Brinjal Shoot and Fruit Borer, Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) in Bihar

Based on the field experiments carried out for three seasons during kharif 2010-11 to kharif 2012-13, rynaxypyr (Coragen 20 SC) 0.006%, flubendiamide (Fame 480 SC) 0.01%, spinosad (Spintor 45 SC) 0.0135% and emamectin benzoate (Proclaim 5 WG) 0.0025% provided superior control of shoot and fruit borer, Leucinodes orbonalis Guenee on brinjal. Effectiveness of these treatments was reflected in terms of reduction in infestation and significantly higher fruit yield in comparison to the other treatments. Population of coccinellids, syrphids and spiders at the end of three rounds of foliar application depicted safety of the newer molecules to the predators. Cost benefit ratio was the highest for cypermethrin 20EC, deltamethrin 5EC + triazophos 35EC, rynaxypyr 20 SC and spinosad 45 SC.
