OSHA to inspect workplaces for compliance with chemical safety standards

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is launching a one-year pilot program to inspect facilities with highly hazardous chemicals above certain threshold amounts to determine if they meet OSHA's process safety management (PSM) standard for such chemicals, the agency announced July 28. According to OSHA, the purpose of the so-called National Emphasis Program (NEP) is to "reduce or eliminate the workplace hazards associated with the catastrophic release of highly hazardous chemicals."
