EU health commissioner-designate takes neutral line on biotech

John Dalli, European commissioner-designate for health and consumer policy, has offered a non-committal response to the European Parliament regarding his views on biotech crops and animal cloning. However, he has signaled support for Commission President Jose Manuel Barrosos idea of allowing member states to decide at the national level whether or not to grow genetically-engineered crops (see PTCN Nov. 2, Page 16).
