Increased IPM knowledge among Beninese farmers

Based on positive results from Farmer Field Schools (FFS) in Asia'-2-3-4-5, African governments, farmers and researchers are adapting the FFS model to African cultures and production systems. In Africa farmers are highly dependent on pesticides. They often use credit to buy inputs such as seeds, fertilizer and synthetic pesticides and due to the high cost of these inputs farmers need high yields to break-even. Many do not dare to reduce their use of synthetic pesticides for fear of yield loss6.
