Group accuses EPA of backroom dealing over handling of DDVP

EPA has been accused of backroom dealing with Amvac,the manufacturer of DDVP,following its announcement last week of company proposals for smaller sizes and changes to labels for its insecticide strips,and the dropping of some uses from its registration.A May 17 statement from the Natural Resources Defense Council(NRDC)said publication of the company's proposal was essentially an announcement that the agency will allow the organophosphate pesticide to remain on the market.Although NRDC acknowledges the steps suggested by Amvac are only a proposal,it claims there is agreement between the agency and the company that the changes resolve health concerns about use of the insecticide.
