Dole has filed a defamation suit against two filmmakers over their documentary on a lawsuit against the company claiming exposure to a pesticide on Dole banana plantations in Nicaragua rendered workers sterile. Bananas! covers Tellez v. Dole, in which a jury awarded $5.7 million in damages to six workers in 2007. But two similar suits against Dole were thrown out in April after it was discovered plaintiffs had been recruited by attorneys to make false claims of employment and sterility. One of those attorneys also represented Tellez.
