Soilless culture of cucumbers: minimising risks of root pathogens after recycling of nutrient solutions.

Risks (especially the occurrence of Pythium spp.) associated with the recycling of nutrient solutions in greenhouse cucumbers are discussed, based on studies carried out during 1997-98 in France. The conservation of the microbial quality of the system is based on good knowledge of the sanitary status of inputs (including substrate, plant, and irrigation water), measures to prevent spread of fungal spores, adequate size of container for recycling water, and well trained personnel (able to diagnose plant diseases).
