Commission finds state systems for tracking birth defects inadequate

Although environmental pollutants may play a role in the apparent nationwide increase in birth defects, it is impossible to know for sure because one-third of the states fail to track birth defects at all, while 25 states have inadequate tracking systems, says a new report from the Pew Environmental Health Commission.
