Brazil capitalizes on hosting Codex pesticide meeting

The Codex Committee on Pesticide Residues(CCPR),which normally meets in the Netherlands,gathered this month in Fortaleza,Brazil,giving the host country a chance to display its international prowess and negotiate some bilateral deals on the side aimed at preventing residue issues from disrupting food trade.During debate on draft risk analysis principles,Canada successfully proposed that the CCPR clearly reveal instances in which non-scientific factors shape risk management decisions on maximum residue levels(MRLs)and explain the justification for such decisions.The draft risk analysis document was advanced for final approval at the next CCPR meeting.
