EU approves six biotech corn varieties for import

The European Commission has approved imports of five new biotech corn varieties and reauthorized another, after member states failed to rule one way or another on the dossiers. The approvals only concern import of the crops for food and feed purposes and don't affect rights to cultivation. However, the move comes only weeks after the commission launched contentious plans to devolve planting rights to member states.
