Group says study demonstrates risks to children from fire retardant

An advocacy group says its new study provides more evidence for its argument that PBDEs should be banned.The Environmental Working Group(EWG)said in 19 out of 20 cases,its tests found concentrations of the fire retardant chemicals in the blood of children aged one to four,at levels"significantly higher"than in their mothers.The families were selected from nine states and Washington,D.C.According to EWG,the average concentration in the children was 62 parts per billion:the group said similar studies conducted on children in Spain and Norway found levels six to 13 times lower,while Australian children had the same levels as in the EWG study.
