More than 40 public interest groups sent a letter to USDA Secretary Ed Schafer on May 20 protesting the department's decision to end its national surveys of agricultural chemical use on fruits, vegetables and field crops, which have been conducted since the early 1990s by the National Agricultural Statistical Service (NASS).
