In 1908 Wilhelm Wiegand founded the basis for the Company GEA Wiegand when in the East German Merseburg he was granted a patent for a multi-effect circulation evaporator.The inventor then was works manager in his father's leather factory.For the first time it was possible to efficiently concentrate tahning broth with his continuously operating three-effect evaporator.The new WIEGAND evaporator was vastly superior compared to the evaporators used in the glue industry and therefore could develop additional fields of applieation within a very short period of time.
