Residues of Insecticides on Sweet Pepper and Tomato Grown under Greenhouse and Open Field Cultivation

Studies were conducted to estimate the residues of selected insecticides in/on sweet pepper and tomato grown in greenhouse as well as open field. Residues of insecticides were analyzed at intervals coinciding with three pickings of each crop. Initial residues (5 days) of imidacloprid, acephate and abamectin in sweet pepper as well as of imidacloprid, triazophos and abamectin in tomato were higher in greenhouse as compared to open field. However, 15 days after treatment, residues of all the insecticides except imidacloprid reached below detectable level in greenhouse as well as in open field. An approximate waiting period of 10 days was found to be adequate for safe harvest of the vegetable crops on the basis of their residues at various pickings (5,10 and 15 days).
